第一部分：垂怜经（Kyrie），合唱和女高音独唱，C小调。这首弥撒曲的，先以乐器出现沉重的主题动机后，乐器与人声呈现二种不同的主题副歌，人声也分四部副歌。人声一开始就是急剧升高再急剧下降，给人十分戏剧性的激动感，而器乐主题从头到尾循环反覆进行式，彷佛在陈述一个明知结局却无法停止的抉择，更衬托出人声四部副歌「主，我求你垂怜」的哀鸣。中间「基督请你怜悯我」歌词部份，是独唱清柔祈祷风，与合唱清柔祈祷风时而对话，时而互相附合。等祈祷风结束，就又回到器乐与人声二部副歌。
