日本的游戏公司史克威尔1999年的惊世巨作——《最终幻想Ⅷ》的主题曲，此前历代游戏开发的成功以及最终幻想Ⅶ和寄生前夜等电影化作品的成功，为史克威尔奠定了坚实的技术和资金基础，在这款大作上人们基本上已经看到了PS1的极限。极度精美的CG动画、令人热血彭湃的经典音乐，FF8就是在这样浪漫的开场动画中开始了。在国内不管是新老玩家对于"太八"的大名想必是无人不知无人不晓的了吧？除了有王菲的一首《Eyes on Me》之外，FF8浪漫唯美的情节也是吸引玩家们的主要原因。如果说《最终幻想Ⅶ》真正迈开了FF电影化的步伐，那么，可以说FF8的出现将FF系列的电影化推向了颠峰。完全真实的人物比例、超绝美型的男女主角、极尽浪漫的经典场面、优美动听的音乐旋律。可以说《最终幻想Ⅷ》具备所有爱情电影中的必备要素。该作的出现也为SQUARE吸引了一大批的"Light user"，FF系列的玩家群在逐渐扩大。尽管一些铁杆FF迷对FF8颇为不屑，然而可以肯定的是该作的出现大大推进了FF系列的大众化进程。 该曲伴随游戏的发售也迅速在乐坛流行开来，一度登上排行榜第一的位置，曾被评为世界年度十大金曲。简单的节奏加上王菲通透、干净的嗓音，给了这首曲以唯美的情境和摄人心魄的力量，听来仿佛陷入某中美好的回忆中。 1999年在《重庆森林》成功抢滩日本市场后，史克威尔看中了王菲的歌喉，邀请她演唱《FINAL FANTASY 8》的主题曲《Eyes on Me》。也正是这首歌，让王菲同时在香港和日本大放光彩。这是王菲首张个人中日合作的游戏单曲，ep推出后，在日本市场蝉联了八个星期之久。 歌曲的含义需要追溯到游戏的情节中，在游戏里有段情节是关于男主角父亲拉格那雷法尔的，他经常去一家酒吧坐在角落里，听一个女钢琴手的演奏。但是后来由于战乱原因两个人没有走到一起，而其各自的子女就成了游戏中的男主角和女主角。《Eyes on Me》按照游戏里应该理解成“注视着我的你”，但她后来再也没有看到过注视她的眼神的出现，所以就谱写了这首《Eyes on Me》。
