《Beautiful Day》的创作灵感来源于一篇名叫《Always》的文章，歌曲的创作工作在“汉诺威·夸伊工作室”内的一个小房间里进行。该歌曲原先是被当作一首朋克摇滚的歌曲来制作的，但是在后来，the Edge因为觉得很无聊所以就放弃了。录制期间，U2乐队成员与the Edge在吉他部分上产生了分歧：当the Edge用他的吉普森吉他演奏出接近于他们1983年专辑《War》音乐风格的时候，主唱保罗·大卫·休森对此感到反感。而后，the Edge对他说出了自己的看法，他表示该歌曲的音乐如果需要进行创新的话，那么就必须使用一些标志性的吉他乐音来完成，最后是保罗妥协了。制作人布莱恩·伊诺在歌曲中使用了电子鼓乐器，并在开头处加入了由合成器演奏的弦音乐。歌曲的混音工作复杂困难，让U2乐队花了两个礼拜的时间才完成。
