Demigod
Demigod was formed in 1999 in Santa Cruz, CA. Two of the founding members, Bruce Shakman and Keith Graves, had a vision from the start as they were practicing in a local tire warehouse. Their vision was to put together a band of incredible musicians writing equally incredible songs. Bruce Shakman, lead singer and guitarist for Demigod, has evolved into a matured songwriter through persistent perseverance. He has been displaying his vocal range with numerous acts in his years of performing. Some of the groups that audiences have had the pleasure of hearing Shakman perform with are Mammy Nuns, Aftermath, and Donnybrook. In July of 1997, Shakman had the opportunity to sing with the Foo Fighters at the infamous Fillmore in San Francisco. Articles of that performance were printed in Rolling Stone Magazine and Addicted to Noise. Keith Graves, bassist and backup vocalist for Demigod, is a name well known in the San Francisco bay area as a sought-after session musician. Graves has logged hundreds of hours in the studio and on the road as a session musician. Some of the noteworthy sessions Graves has had include Guitar Shorty and Rico Reyes of the Santana Band. Graves received bass guitar credit for Dave Beaudry's chart-topping Alien Man CD, recorded in Nashville. Graves also toured as bassist for the band Folkin' A, a project of David Lowery of Cracker. Ralph Patlan, lead guitarist and backup vocalist for Demigod, is also the person who produced and engineered Demigod's debut album. Patlan has toured and recorded with many successful projects. A couple of the bands Patlan has been associated with are the Call and the Grassy Knoll. He also performed on the soundtrack for Paul Schrader's 1992 film Light Sleeper. Patlan has engineered multiple albums with Michael Schenker of Michael Schenker Group, Scorpions, and UFO fame. Canadian-born Shane Gaalaas rounds out Demigod on the drums. He always puts down a solid foundation which allows Demigod fans to rock with enthusiasm. Gaalaas has sat behind the drum kit for many influential artists such as Yngwie Malmsteen and Michael Schenker. He can also be heard on recordings live and in the studio, released by Malmsteen and Schenker. Gaalaas was also a member of the dark metal band Diesel Machine, which released Torture Test in 2001. Demigod released their debut self-titled album in 2001, which met with rave reviews. With experience and a commitment to put out the best show they can, the future looked bright for Demigod.
