Scott Cooper

Scott Cooper

After two major life changes in '09, 2012 finds singer/songwriterScott Cooper finally feeling like his old self again. That is, he's back tomaking his dependable brand of laid-back and likeable alternative folk-pop music. In September 2012, Cooper will release his fourth full-length album "Quiet Company", produced by collaborator and friend Rob Szabo (Peter Katz, Ian Sherwood). Recorded in a rustic cabin over the winter months of 2011 and 2012, the low-key performances clearly demonstrate how environment and headspace can influence a sound. Cooper explains, "The cabin belongsto my in-laws and it's one of my favourite places to hang out, so we would just set up the gear, crank up the wood stove and work for days.Outside of using an outhouse in February, it was the most comfortablerecording experience I've ever had." Quiet Company is a perfect example of a less-is-more approach, whereCooper's acoustic guitar and gentle, double-tracked vocal holds frontand centre, occasionally complemented by intensely melodic burstsof cello, horns, drums, and vintage synths. A who's-who of thoughtful, respected musicians and friends round out the Quiet Company cast inBryden Baird (Feist, Hayden), Adam Warner (Royal Wood, Jill Barber), Mike Yates (Amos The Transparent), and Alex McMaster (Ron Hawkins/Lowest of The Low). As well, a Scott Cooper LP would be incomplete without some goosebump-inducing harmony vocals from Caroline Brooks (Good Lovelies). Cooper's music has been used in independent film and television, such as CTV's smash Heartland, The Food Network's The Surreal Gourmet, and Roadtrip Nation on PBS. He's also shared the stage with some of the country's brightest talent such as Luke Doucet, Elliott Brood, Good Lovelies, Peter Katz, Royal Wood, John Wart Hannam, and Sarah Slean just to name a few. Look for Cooper on tour this fall with Rob Szabo and Brydan Smith.
