I.D.A

I.D.A

I.D.A – with a voice that may be deaf to hear! I.D.A is the young rebel who always took her own path in life. A life that is reflected in her music and lyrics. She loves the unpredictable and sees herself as a work of art creating her own style. I.D.A is an experienced live performer and on stage her expressive personality gives the audience a kick in the gut. Her soulful raw hoarseness gives weight to the music that mixes hard guitars and twisted synths with rich melodies in an explosive mix. Ida grew up in the quaint village of Folkärna outside Avesta. - I had a very happy child hood, she recalls. I went to a small village-school where rules were strict, but it was a great place. Ida grew up in a family of four, with an older sister and brother. At three, Ida began singing in a choir and at six she started playing the violin. She kept at it for eight years, learning how to read music, but slowly but surely the singing became her primary interest. Ida had discovered early on that she had a powerful voice. She would scream at the top of her lungs all the time, a bad habit that lead to problems with her vocal chords. As a result of the yelling, her voice is now permanently husky which, ironically, works in her favor. - I remember when I met this man who’d been deaf all his life. I screamed in a very high pitch and he started to cry. He heard me – and it was the first time he’d ever heard anything! That is pretty fantastic. Today, her persistent crying has resulted in a permanent, slightly husky voice that has great character and personality. Even as a person is Ida just personal. She writes music and lyrics, does all design and styling herself. She paints pictures and makes art out of garbage. She sticks out in a crowd and she is comfortable in the spotlight. - I see myself a bit like a work of art. I love hair and makeup. I have gone from afro hairstyle to straight, from long to short and from blonde to jet black. I like to stand out and don´t mind overdoing it just a bit. The only time I get nervous before a gig is when I don´t get nervous. You need that adrenalin rush to focus. Ida’s music is leaning towards a little tougher sound. Her stage name has become I.D.A. and her strong voice and performance is colorful, spontaneous and unpredictable.I.D.A’s debut album “Code of Conduct” was praised in the press and the video for the single Armageddon Ready opened doors to foreign countries. Today, she is signed to a number of countries. Although the adores big, black voices she embraces rock with an attitude – as long as it has a solid melody. Many of the lyrics has a deeper content. Ida wants to make the listener think, or at least think for herself. I.D.A’s new album “Pink Explosion” is a very strong sequel. Harsh guitars, twisted synths with rich melodies and a punk attitude, in both lyrics and music, makes this crossover album both heavy, light and explosive.
