Mikey Wax

On the morning of his graduation from Vanderbilt University, singer/songwriter Mikey Wax received a letter that took 20 years to get to him. It was written by his late grandfather, who requested the letter be handed down to Mikey when he was a young man ready to enter “the real world.” Inside were words of love and wisdom to make up for lost time that the two would never share together. Inspired by these words, Mikey knew he had to pursue his one true passion; music. A piano player and singer/songwriter all his life, Mikey returned home to New York to begin recording the songs he had written throughout his college years. The collection of songs resulted in his debut album titled Change Again, which quickly ranked on the iTunes top 100 pop albums chart due to strong word of mouth on social network sites like facebook, myspace, and youtube. The single "In Case I Go Again" was selected as the winner of The Unsigned Artist radio contest held by South Florida's leading top-40 station WRMF/97.9 FM, and has since been featured on several television shows including the hit CBS series "Ghost Whisperer". The music video for "In Case I Go Again" has also received 450,000 hits on YouTube since being featured on the homepage for their "Music Tuesday" spotlight. In February, 2010, Mikey released the 6 song EP For Better Or Worse to follow up the success of Change Again. The EP reached 88 on the iTunes top 100 pop charts the first week, and was followed by a month-long tour opening for singer/songwriters Howie Day & Serena Ryder. The past year, Mikey has shared the stage with many reputable artists including Landon Pigg, Tyler Hilton, Graham Colton, Diane Birch, and Ryan Cabrera to name a few. Through consistent touring, Wax has developed a solid following around the East Coast and Mid-West, capturing audiences through his intimate songs, impressive piano chops, and strong showmanship. While performing, fans are also intrigued by Wax's ability to play both the guitar and piano at the same time while singing on originals "Back And Forth" and "Last Great Song".In April, 2010, Mikey released The Traveler EP through his website www.mikeywax.com, where fans could download the album for free in exchange for their e-mail or a twitter status update. The result was an impressive 12,000 downloads, creating strong buzz both online and at shows. The single "Birmingham" from the EP was also featured on the homepage of American Songwriter Magazine. The EP is now available exclusively on iTunes. This past summer, Mikey embarked on a headlining house concert tour, where he performed in 35 living rooms across the East Coast/Mid-West and hitting many major US cities.
