听到这首歌就想起《白鲸》，仿佛是偏执的船长被疯狂的欲望所摄住，誓死要捕到那条鲸鱼，还编织出种种空幻的承诺拖着全体船员夜以继日地为他卖命。麻木的船员们一直梦想着有一天能够收手得到解脱，却被迫在一声声口号下耗尽补给来坚持这不可能完成的任务，把求生的机会空耗在和鲸鱼缠斗的死局中，最后和贪婪的船长一起，一步一步走向毁灭。

这是一个简单又有些血腥的故事：18世纪，一条名叫“billy of tea”的新西兰捕鱼船，他们在追捕一条鲸鱼用鱼叉叉中了它却又没办法把它拉上船的故事。当时有一个名叫“Weller bothers”英国公司专门为这些捕鲸船送补给（sugar、rum、tea），所以水手们亲切的称送补给的船为“Wellerman”这就是歌名的由来
