一首珀西·比希·雪莱（Percy Bysshe Shelley，1792-1822）的经典爱情诗《Dear Mary》（中文译：给玛丽）。雪莱是英国著名浪漫主义诗人，而他的爱人玛丽同样也是一位才华横溢的科幻女作家，被誉为“科幻小说之母”。雪莱反对一切传统束缚与腐朽的东西，反对传统婚姻制度，主张相爱时男女之间的自由契约，出发点是尊重双方的自由意志。这也令人联想到百年后的另外一对法国自由伴侣，萨特与波伏娃。然而，主张恋爱自由的玛丽父亲却并不接受两人不顾世俗的相爱，他们三个孩子夭折，以及雪莱在一次远航中溺水身亡，年仅三十岁，而幼子仅三岁。玛丽自食其力，笔耕不辍，并为雪莱整理遗作，令世人得见雪莱那首五百多行的未完成长诗《生之凯旋》。
